Etsy, Etsy, or Etsy?

I’m thinking about Etsy. Do I need a store? Is now the time to try to sell some of my pieces? Do I even have enough finished to start that in motion?

I like Etsy. It gives artists an easy place to be found and sell their work. From the site:  Your place to buy & sell things handmade. There’s even an entire woodworking category. Here’s a fun looking chess board I’ve found.  Oh, and a set of rings that I wouldn’t mind getting as a gift.  Too bad they are all the way in France;  I’d like a closer look.  I could go on and on about the items and shops that I’ve bookmarked.

Anyway, I’m looking into it,and reading the Dos and Don’ts of Etsy.  Feel free to send me your thougts on this, as I’m having trouble even posting about it. Really, I’d love some input.

I think you should go for it. I don’t know anything about the site, do you have a fee for start up? Offer one item and see how it goes.

    Alice-
No fee to start as far as I can tell. So, that’s one vote for Etsy. I should admit that I now have an account while I do more research.

Hey T, Etsy would be great. I’ve seen good stuff on there, and I think your work would fit well!

Thanks, J.J. I guess that’s two votes for Etsy, now.

I say go for it, too. Just make sure you have a simple packing/mailing system set up so you can spend your time on making things, not shipping them! Shipping can be a pain. But I think it would be a great spot for your work.

My sister has a store (well, two really), here: http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5685404

Thanks, Rachel. I’ll check that out.

Three votes in favor. I keep peeking in at it. If I ever am able to produce enough to have a store…not a bad idea.

Man, what a thought, enough rolling ball sculptures to have a store. Maybe it’s the idea of all that time I’d be able to put into *making* the sculptures. Suddenly, I’m overcome with the thought of leaving work. Now. Can I be locked in the basement for two weeks please? Just send me down a pizza once every two days.

I see this post is pretty old, did you ever end up on esty. If so was it successful?
