Yarn Bombing

January 22, 2014

For a few brief days on the Northern State University campus, several statues wore knitted hats and scarves.

I couldn’t stop looking at the hands.  The scarves were held in place by the hands, destroyed the craftsmanship by doing so.

I miss the brightness in that part of campus, and that I didn’t take more pictures while I had the chance.

If you’ve been reading this blog you know I’ve been keeping an eye on the Hoagy Carmichael statue outside the IU Auditorium.  I’ve taken so many shots of him and the various items that people have left him over the last few years that I’ve started a new blog about it.  I give you:  Hoagyland! Please feel free to check back often!

Poor Hoagy

I just had to post this.

Hoagy Carmichael

One of my ongoing projects is taking pictures of Hoagy Carmichael.  Yes, I realize he died in 1981, but a statue of him was placed near the stage door of IU Auditorium last fall.  He’s very popular.  People like to leave him things.  I like to think they are offerings to a legend as a way to ensure a good show for those about to perform.  I plan to take pictures of as many of these items that I can.
